Healthcare Compliance Tips – Hotline
Train at new employee orientation and annually thereafter.
Per the SAI Global and Strategic Management’s “2019 Healthcare Compliance Benchmark Report,” healthcare organizations are facing challenges in the area of developing/delivering compliance training programs. The survey showed that this section performed significantly lower on the report.
I am not surprised to see that healthcare organizations are struggling to fulfill this area. There is so much work that needs to be done, in which training employees is quietly being placed on the back burner.
The OIG is even aware that training and education is a compliance concern, in which the Compliance Program for Individual and Small Group Physician Practices states the two goals for conducting compliance training are:
All employees will receive training on how to perform their jobs in compliance with the standards of the practice and any applicable regulations.
Each employee will understand that compliance is a condition of continued employment.
To help make your compliance life more comfortable, here are the different ways you can train your employees, such as:
Create or purchase online training modules.
Schedule a “Lunch and Learn.”
Create an interactive quiz (i.e., Quizizz).
Play a game (i.e., trivia).
Share and discuss case studies.
Remember, compliance doesn’t have to be boring. You can do whatever it takes to get your staff excited about learning new and old compliance concepts. However, don’t forget to document the training and keep them in your files just in case the government pays you a visit.
