Create Newsletters [Healthcare Compliance Tips]
Create monthly healthcare compliance newsletters.
Since this is the last tip of our employee engagement series, we would like to add the importance of communication through newsletters.
Newsletters are a good way to disseminate information quickly about new and old compliance trends. You can also utilize the newsletter to provide practice results, encouraging words, “wins,” and much more.
The goal of the newsletter is to involve your employees so they are aware of compliance and that you are doing your part to help them increase their knowledge.
We suggest monthly newsletters because healthcare trends change rather quickly, which can affect your practice compliance polices and bottom line.
A good place to stay up to date on trends in compliance is through the following:
- OIG website – “Compliance Resource Portal”
- OIG Work Plan
- Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services
- Department of Justice
- Commercial insurance companies.
- Healthcare media firms (i.e., Becker’s Healthcare, Fierce Healthcare, HIMSS, Healthcare Dive, etc.)
And, don’t forget to solicit updates from your employees. Your certified billers and coders are part of professional organizations that provide them updates regularly through email blasts.
As we have said before, getting employees involved in the process is key to keeping your compliance program free from fraud and abuse.
Last, if you are wondering how to design your template, we have you covered! We are a fan of HubSpot blog posts, in which they share steps to get you started on creating a newsletter for your practice.
